Armored Core 6, the latest installment in the long-running mecha franchise from FromSoftware, is set to release on August 25th, 2023. The game promises to deliver a thrilling and immersive experience of piloting a customizable mech in a futuristic world ravaged by war and environmental disasters.
Story and PvP Showcase
On the 18th Armored had a 2-hour-long showcase with plenty of story and PvP details:
Story
The lore and story of Armored Core 6 are set in a distant future where humanity has colonized several planets in the galaxy. However, a mysterious new substance called ‘Coral’ was discovered on the remote planet Rubicon 3, which triggered a series of cataclysmic events that engulfed the planet and its surrounding stars in flames and storms. This phenomenon created a Burning Star System, where life is harsh and dangerous.
Almost half a century later, Coral has resurfaced on Rubicon 3, a planet now contaminated and sealed off by the disaster. Extra-terrestrial corporations and resistance groups fight over control of the substance, which has immense potential as an energy source and a weapon. The player infiltrates Rubicon as an independent mercenary and finds themselves in a struggle over the substance with the corporations and other factions.
The game will also have connections to the previous Armored Core games, especially Armored Core V and Armored Core: Verdict Day, which introduced a similar story arc of a single corporation dominating a contaminated Earth and being opposed by a resistance faction. The game will also reveal new secrets and mysteries about the origin and nature of Coral, as well as its impact on the galaxy.
PvP
One of the most anticipated features of the game is its PvP mode. The PvP mode of Armored Core 6 will allow players to test their skills and strategies against other players in online matches. The game will support both 1v1 and 3v3 modes, with different maps and objectives to suit different playstyles. The PvP gameplay will be fast-paced, as players will have to maneuver their mechs with 3D mobility, use ranged and melee weapons, and deploy various gadgets and abilities to gain an edge over their opponents. The PvP mode of Armored Core 6 is expected to be one of the most exciting and competitive aspects of the game, as it will challenge players to master their mechs and outsmart their rivals.
Multiple streamers were also brought on to showcase live Armored Core 6 gameplay during the event, giving us our clearest and most uncut look at the game yet. During the ‘FightinCowboy’ gameplay, we also saw that you can actually resupply in the middle of missions with drops. Streamer ‘Oroboros’ also took on the Smart Cleaner boss, which I can only describe as an open furnace with cylindrical grinders that are so hot they glow bright orange. The show’s highlight was undoubtedly our first look at Armored Core 6 PvP though, as we saw both the 3v3 and 1v1 matches filled with brightly colored mechas and incredibly fast-paced and chaotic gameplay.
