Marauders is the new high profile extraction shooter game that has entered Steam Early Access on October 3, 2022. The game is developed by Small Impact Games, a UK-based indie studio that has previously worked on titles such as The Black Death and Dead Man’s Trail. Marauders is set in a sci-fi universe where the Cold War never ended and two factions, the US and the USSR, are competing for resources and secrets in the outer space.
Standing on the shoulders of Tarkov
Extraction shooters have been slowly gaining prominence and popularity since the beta release of Escape From Tarkov, arguably the blueprint upon which much of the genre has been built. The game abandons Hunt: Showdown’s objective-driven play, and instead encourages players to focus on looting as much as they can, and getting out as quickly as possible.
The game’s core gameplay loop involves landing on a planet, looting items and intel, and extracting before the timer runs out or the enemy catches you. The game features both PvE and PvP elements, as you can encounter hostile AI marauders, wildlife, and other players on your way to the extraction point. The game also has a realistic damage system, where bullets can penetrate armor and limbs, and a complex inventory system, where you have to manage your weight, ammo, and attachments.
Tarkov Lite
Marauders aims to offer a more accessible and streamlined experience than other extraction shooters like Escape From Tarkov, while still retaining the challenge and tension of the genre. The game has some features that make it easier for newcomers to get into, such as visible extraction points, simplified healing process, and foldable bags. However, the game is still unforgiving and requires careful planning, teamwork, and skill to survive.
Early Access
The game is currently in early access and has received positive feedback from players and critics alike. The game has four maps to explore, each with different biomes, weather, and hazards. The game also has 80 hours of mission content, where you can complete objectives and earn rewards. The developers plan to add more content and features in the future, such as new weapons, items, maps, modes, customization options, and more.
