It’s been a rough couple of years for Titanfall 2 players, but it looks like that may be about to change. After a recent steam sale an official update has appeared out of nowhere and got it multiplayer working again. Players are now flooding back, with Titanfall 2 hitting a peak player count of 22,604 in the last 24 hours. Maybe this is the comeback Titanfall 2 needed.
Titanic Comeback?
Despite Titanfalls quality and popularity, Titanfall 2 did not sell well. According to EA’s financial reports, the game sold less than 4 million copies as of March 2017, which is significantly lower than the sales of other major shooters released in the same period, such as Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. There are many factors that contributed to the poor sales performance of Titanfall 2, but the most commonly cited one is its release date. Titanfall 2 was released on October 28, 2016, just one week after Battlefield 1 and one week before Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
These two games are both established franchises with loyal fanbases and massive marketing campaigns. Titanfall 2 had to compete with them for the attention and wallets of the shooter fans, and it was inevitably overshadowed by them. Many players either skipped Titanfall 2 altogether or bought it later at a discounted price.
Rising Playercount
A few days ago the game has received a major update in quite a long time, observant fans are getting the distinct sense that something is up especially after a Titanfall Easter egg was discovered in Apex Legends patch notes that were released earlier this week. Since finding out that Respawn canceled Titanfall 3 in favor of going battle royale in Apex Legends, the Titanfall community has largely given up on there ever being a Titanfall 3. That doesn’t mean it isn’t possible, but this also could very well be some kind of Titanfall themed seasonal event crossover in Apex Legends.
Many fans have been clamoring for a sequel to Titanfall 2 for years and with the recent updates Titanfall 2s numbers have climbed to an all-time high of over 20 thousand. This interest in the game might be the push that Respawn Entertainment and EA needs to start working on a Titanfall 3. These updates show there is still hope for Titanfall 3 A sequel that fulfills the dreams of the fans. A sequel that makes Titanfall 2 look like a warm-up.
