Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty and 2.0 Update – Everything You Need to Know

Cyberpunk 2077 is getting ready for a major overhaul with the upcoming one and only DLC Phantom Liberty alongside the free 2.0 update. The expansion will add a new district, hopefully not a broken mess like the original and also brings Idris Alba as Solomon Reed. Idris Alba as he is brings appears to bring a brooding charm to Solomons character and that is one thing I am quite excited to see (If youv’e seen Luther you know what I mean). In this article we detail the overhaul coming to Cyberpunk and its 2.0 update.

The Much nEeded Overhaul

In Phantom Liberty  a mysterious agent offers V a chance to join a covert operation against a powerful corporation. The operation will take V to Dogtown, a dangerous new district that is home to gangs, cults, and cyberpsychos. There, V will encounter new allies and enemies, as well as new quests, gigs, boss fights, and more. Phantom Liberty will also add a new skill tree called Relic, which will allow V to unlock new abilities related to the biochip that contains Johnny Silverhand’s personality. These abilities include hacking enemies’ cyberware, summoning Johnny’s ghost to fight alongside V, and even switching places with Johnny temporarily. The expansion will also increase the level cap to 60, and add over 100 new items to the game, such as weapons, cyberware, cars, and fashion. Some of these items will have unique features, such as vehicle missile launchers that can be used in car chases and combat.

2.0 update

The 2.0 update is a free patch that will be available for all players of Cyberpunk 2077, regardless of whether they own Phantom Liberty or not. The update will make significant changes to the game’s systems and mechanics, aiming to improve the overall experience and quality of life. Some of the main features of the update are:

  • Redesigned skill trees and perks: The update will revamp the existing skill trees and perks in the game, making them more balanced and diverse. Some perks will be removed or replaced, while others will be added or modified. For example, the Body skill tree will have a new perk called Brawler that increases melee damage and stamina regeneration.
  • Revamped cyberware and new capacity system: The update will also overhaul the cyberware system in the game, adding more variety and customization options. Cyberware will have different tiers and rarities, as well as different effects and bonuses depending on where they are installed. Additionally, a new capacity system will limit how much cyberware V can equip at once, based on their body type and cyberware quality.
  • Vehicle combat and car chases: The update will introduce a new feature that allows V to engage in vehicular combat and car chases with enemies. V will be able to shoot from their car window or roof, ram other vehicles, or use special weapons like missile launchers or EMPs. The car chases will also involve dynamic events like roadblocks, spikes, or helicopters.
  • Combat AI improvements: The update will improve the combat AI of enemies and allies in the game, making them more responsive and realistic. Enemies will use cover more effectively, flank V more often, and coordinate their attacks better. Allies will also help V more actively in combat situations.
  • New police system: The update will replace the existing police system in the game with a new one that is inspired by Grand Theft Auto. The new system will have a heat meter that indicates how much attention V has drawn from the law enforcement. Depending on the heat level, different types of police units will be dispatched to pursue V, ranging from patrol cars and drones to SWAT teams and Max Tac units.
  • UI and UX improvements: The update will also make various improvements to the user interface and user experience of the game, such as adding more options for customization, accessibility, and feedback. For example, V will be able to change their appearance at barber shops or tattoo parlors, adjust the size and color of subtitles and HUD elements, and see more information about their stats and items.
  • Loot, items, and crafting changes: The update will also tweak the loot system in the game, making it more balanced and rewarding. Loot drops will be more varied and appropriate for the enemies’ level and type. Items will also have more attributes and effects that can be modified through crafting or upgrading.
  • New radio stations: The update will add several new radio stations to the game’s soundtrack, including a community radio station called Growl FM that features songs created by fans of Cyberpunk 2077.

Both Phantom Liberty and 2.0 update are expected to bring a lot of new content and improvements to Cyberpunk 2077, making it a more immersive and enjoyable game for fans and newcomers alike. Phantom Liberty will launch on September 26, 2023, while the 2.0 update will release a bit before that, although the exact date is not yet confirmed.
