Path of Exile 2: An Alternative to Diablo 4

Diablo 4 Season of the Malignant has been marked by controversy as many players are unhappy with the changes the Season 1 update brought to the game, claiming that the game has been made more of a grind to play for minimal payoff. With so many Diablo 4 players disappointed with the update, Path of Exile 2 has a great opportunity to gain a lot of players from the Diablo 4 community.

What makes PATH of exile 2 special?

Path of Exile 2 is the upcoming long awaited expansion for the popular online action role-playing game Path of Exile, developed by Grinding Gear Games. The expansion was announced in November 2019 at ExileCon. It was re-revealed at Summer Game Fest 2023 but was overshadowed for by being shown so close to Diablo 4’s launch. However, now that many fans have been turned off by Diablo 4, Path of Exile 2 is in a good position to shine and flex its features. Instead of being a new game entirely POE 2 is an upgrade to the original. It will be downloaded like any update and have all the old content available with but reworked, and new content added on top of it. So for new players they will be entering a content rich game from the get go.

Path of Exile 2 New Features

A New Campaign

Path of Exile 2 will introduce a completely new campaign storyline, consisting of seven acts, that will take place 20 years after the events of the original game. The new story will feature new characters, enemies, environments, and lore, as well as a revamped skill system and graphics engine. Path of Exile 2 will also include all the content from the original game and its expansions, allowing players to access both campaigns with their existing or new characters.

Progression Overhaul

One of the most significant changes in Path of Exile 2 is the overhaul of the skill gem system, which is the core mechanic of the game’s character customization and progression. In Path of Exile 2, skill gems will no longer be socketed into equipment, but instead be converted into active skill gems themselves. Each active skill gem will have its own set of sockets that can be filled with support gems, regardless of the equipment’s sockets. This will give players more freedom and flexibility to customize their skills and equipment, as well as simplify the user interface and inventory management.

New Classes

Path of Exile 2 will add 19 additional ascendancy classes to the game. The new classes will initially be exclusive to the new storyline, but once unlocked they can be accessed in Path of Exile 1 as well. The new ascendancy classes will not be available through the labyrinths, but through other means in the new campaign. Skills granted by ascendancy classes will now scale based on the character’s level rather than be at a specific level.

Graphical Enhancements

Another major improvement is the upgrade of the graphics engine, which will enhance the visual quality and performance of the game. The new engine will support dynamic lighting, shadows, reflections, and physics effects, as well as higher resolution textures and models. The game’s art style and atmosphere will also be more diverse and immersive, with new biomes, weather systems, and day-night cycles. The developers have stated that the game will run on a wide range of hardware configurations, from low-end to high-end PCs.

Path of Exile 2 is expected to launch in 2023, but no official release date has been confirmed yet. When it does release though Diablo 4 will have stiff competition.
